Jeem Cup Youth Football Tournament: World Cup Legacy
Jeem Cup Youth Football Tournament: Inspiring World Cup Legacy
Event photography and social media documentation for the international Jeem Cup in Doha, informing community outreach strategies for Generation Amazing and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
International Youth Football in Qatar’s Top Stadiums
In 2016 and 2017, Doha hosted the Jeem Cup, a major under-12 international football tournament broadcast across the region by Al Jazeera Children’s Channel. Young teams from across the Arab world gathered to compete inside Qatar’s primary sports venues. My dual role as official photographer and social media officer involved documenting the entire arc of the tournament, from opening ceremony rehearsals through to the final trophy lift.
Pitch Action, Tunnel Focus, and Real-Time Coverage
Coverage extended well beyond match action on the field. The camera recorded tense preparations inside stadium tunnels, early morning training sessions, and high-tempo play across every round. These images fed real-time social media channels and press bulletins, driving local attendance in the stands and generating sustained digital engagement across regional fanbases.
Cultural Exchange and Off-Pitch Connections
Sporting action was only one aspect of the narrative. Away from the pitch, I accompanied visiting squads to cultural sites, embassy receptions, and local landmarks around Doha. Photographing young players from completely different backgrounds bonding over shared meals and city tours provided a clear visual story of sport bringing diverse communities together.
Building Foundation Assets for Generation Amazing
The visual assets and audience insights gathered during the tournament provided baseline data that helped shape fan experience strategies and community outreach programmes for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
