A photographic study of Tokyo’s dual nature. By capturing the massive scale of its neon-lit expressways alongside the absolute silence of its narrow back alleys, I documented a city that manages to be both the busiest metropolis on earth and a collection of quiet, self-contained villages.

Tokyo is built on an impossible scale, with high-rise towers and multi-layered expressways stacked on top of one another.

Despite the crushing density of the city, the movement of the crowd is incredibly orderly. Rather than finding chaotic friction, I caught thousands of people moving through tight ticket gates and crossings without ever bumping into one another.

The real surprise of Tokyo is how quickly the noise drops away. You can step off a bright, multi-lane avenue and instantly find yourself in a silent alleyway.

This collection is about those sudden transitions. Tokyo is not just a high-tech playground, and it is not just a quiet historic relic: it is both at the exact same time.
